Resume of Scott E. Masten

Scott E. Masten is Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan. He received his A.B. from Dartmouth College and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He has been on the faculty at Michigan since 1984. Prior to 1984, he spent two years as a member of the economics faculty at the University of Virginia.

Professor Masten's research focuses on issues at the intersection of law, economics, and organization and his work has made him a leading scholar in the area of transaction cost economics. He has published numerous articles relating to contracting, vertical integration, and antitrust and is currently working on a book titled The Organization and Governance of Higher Education.

Professor Masten has provided expert testimony and analysis in a number of cases involving issues of contracting and organization, and he has served as a consultant to the Federal Trade Commission and the World Bank.

In 1998, Professor Masten was awarded the Louis and Myrtle Moskowitz Research Professorship in Business and Law, and he has held appointments as John M. Olin Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Virginia Law School and Visiting Research Fellow at Yale Law School. He is a co-editor of the Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, was previously co editor of Economic Inquiry, and serves on the editorial boards of four other journals.
